ABOUT

WATCH MUSIC. HEAR FILM.

Film and music rarely coincide like this: UNDIVIDED gives local musicians a platform to create unique cinematic scores to the work of Melbourne filmmakers, visual artists and animators.

It sets the task for an eclectic range of featured performers – sound artists, bands, singer/songwriter, classical soloist/group, score composers – to demonstrate their abilities to explore, disregard, or intensify the media-relationship between sight and sound.

Musicians are followed during the creative process, and documentary shorts of this will screen throughout the evening. Performers will be playing from their own back catalogue, as well as presenting their individual music scores live on the night.

QUA

Cornel Wilczek, otherwise known as Qua, enjoys nothing more than making electronic music. His debut album "Forgetabout' was released in 2002, on Surgery records. When he dropped Forgetabout on an unsuspecting public, the response was near rapturous acclaim.

Fast forward to the late 2008 and Qua is back with 2 new offerings. Sitting between the improvised/experimental and pop worlds has defined much of Qua's unique sounds. Qua separated into 2 projects: "Silver Red", on Someone Good Records, is an improvised live recording with Drummer Laurence Pike. It continues the process based electro-acoustic work that was developed from 2004-2007. "Q & A" is a pure beat based, electronic, danceable, ecstatic frenzy on Mush Records. Joining Cornel on the stage in these crazy adventures is Bongo Legs on percussion.

Foreget about folktronica, kiddietronica, or even pigeonholetronica as Qua is operating in his own league. In fact some aspects of it don't even sound all that electronic, drawing upon elements of world music, folk, and even rock in this incredible fusion. Qua's work uses field recordings as much as guitar, homemade, noisy software as much as the sound of delicate acoustic instruments, rich spatial environments as much as the digital frenzy of an array of sound-plugins.

He has been lucky enough to play alongisde such acts as: Little Wings (US), Calvin Johnson (US), Jens Lekman (Swe), Mt Eerie (US), Kath Bloom (US), Camera Obscura (SCO) The Brunettes (NZ), Micah P.
